3CR12

3CR12 is a ferritic corrosion resisting steel which was developed and patented by Columbus Stainless.

This corrosion resistant steel contains 11 % chromium which gives it corrosion resistance. 3CR12 has superior corrosion resistance than galvanized mild steel. Sections are also typically 30 % stronger when fabricated from 3CR12 than when fabricated from mild steel.

Results of long-term corrosion tests conducted by Mr B G Callaghan of the CSIR revealed the following:

Cape Town Docks Durban Bay Head
  2 years 5 years 2 years 5 years
zinc corrosion rate (microns per year) 3.20 3.25 2.39 2.46
3CR12 corrosion rate (microns per year) 0.192 0.114 0.194 0.159
Increased corrosion resistance 16 x 28 x 12 x 15 x

From the above data, it is clear that 3CR12 has far superior corrosion resistance than even zinc.

All Secure4Life 3CR12 fencing and wall spike products are pickled and passivated after manufacturing. It is further recommended that all products are painted to further increase their life span and reduce possible surface discoloration.
